Wisdom Teeth
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are a set of four teeth that erupt into the back four corners of the mouth. This usually occurs between the ages of 17 to 21.
Do they always need to be removed?
No, not everyone will need to have their wisdom teeth removed. If there is enough space to accommodate the wisdom teeth, or if they are not causing any pain, or if good oral hygiene can be achieved, there is no need to remove them. The main reasons why wisdom teeth are recommended to be removed are if oral hygiene is difficult, decay or frequent infection of the gum around the teeth.
What are some of the symptoms of wisdom teeth infection?
Some of the signs include:
Red, inflamed gum near the wisdom tooth
Swelling
Pain and discomfort
Pus coming from the gum
Difficulty to open the mouth and to swallow
Can I get my wisdom teeth removed at Gentle Care Dentistry?
Yes, our dentists complete wisdom teeth extractions. However, it depends on the severity and difficulty of the cases. Sometimes, we may have to refer you to an oral surgeon to complete the surgery due to the high risk factors. We will complete an OPG X-ray during our consultation to determine what risks are involved and the difficulty of the extraction.
